Hyderabad: Giving a shot in the arm to government degree colleges, students who had qualified with 99 per cent marks in Intermediate (BPC and MPC streams) have opted to take admission in different courses offered in the government degree colleges in the State.

Addressing media here on Monday, Director of Collegiate Education Navin Mittal, Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) Vice-Chairman and Degree Online Services, Telangana (DOST)-2018 Convener R Limbadri said that top rankers among the female candidates have opted to take admission in the Koti Women's college.

During the first phase of web counselling for the admissions into degree courses about 1, 21,307 seats were allocated on the basis of web options given by the students. Navin Mittal said that a total of 1, 37,874 students have applied through DOST. Out of this, 1, 29,790 candidates were allocated seats basing on their choice of course and colleges. "As many as 1, 21,307 candidates had given their web options. Out of this, only 8,483 were rejected on the basis of their options," he said.

Nearly, 84,870 got allocation of seats based on their first preference. Another 36,437 students have been allocated seats on the basis of the other options given, he said. Limbadri said that out of the total allocation of seats in the first phase, girls were allocated 72,859 seats against an allocation of 48,448 seats to the boys.

Another interesting feature was that a total of 2,815 students have opted for residential degree colleges. A total of 25 per cent additional allocation of seats had been made in the government colleges during the ensuing academic year when compared to the last year. Out of top 10 colleges in the allocation of seats during the first phase nine are government colleges, he said.

Limbadri said that those students who have not got seats in the first phase will be given an opportunity in the second phase of web counselling. And, the second phase of web counselling will start from June 5 and will continue till June 12, in which the students can submit their online applications. Candidates can give their web options till June 14 and the seats will be allocated on June 19, he said.
