Hyderabad: Intent on promoting Telangana as the centre for agro-based exports in the country, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Monday unveiled a roadmap for taking up mechanization of the farm sector at all levels in the next two years. He announced that the government will provide all necessary tools required at subsidized prices to all farmers and make available technology at their doorsteps.

Inaugurating a day-long Agriculture Officers meeting here, the Chief Minister said tractors, tillers, harvesting machines, plant sowing machines, cultivators, implementers, ploughs and so on will be given to farmers at subsidized prices.

He wanted all the 2,500 agriculture clusters should have farm mechanisation 100 per cent by early 2020. The officials of the state Agriculture department mainly Agriculture Extension Officers and mandal coordinators have been instructed to take up a survey on the requirement of tools in each cluster to achieve 100 % farm mechanization.

Simultaneously, the department will have to develop crop colonies to grow crops based on the local agro-climatic conditions in every farming season, KCR said, adding that the government had already taken measures providing water, power, investment support and minimum support price to ensure farmers grow economically.

KCR said the crop colonies and mechanization will be an added advantage for Telangana farmers. Once all the necessary inputs are provided, farmers will grow crops on demand and sell them at remunerative prices through strong marketing network to be established from village to the national level soon.

He suggested to the officials to take up a case study on the success of farmers in Ankapur in Medak district who cultivate sweet corn and export the produce at profit to neighbouring states with their own marketing facility. He asserted every crop colony should be developed on the lines of Ankapur farmers.

The objective of his government is that the farmers lead a decent life and be proud of themselves, the CM said and instructed the Horticulture department to prepare plans for the setting up of food processing units at local level. He said he was confident that the farming community will grow strong financially by utilizing the government support and reach the stage where they will not have to depend on anyone’s help in the future.

The CM said the new insurance scheme covering nearly 58 lakh farmers will benefit their families in case of sudden death. “This insurance scheme is one which has given me immense satisfaction,” KCR said.

Within 10 days of the death of the insured person, the bereaved family will be paid Rs 5 lakh compensation. His government chose LIC for the implementation of the scheme as the insurance corporation was reliable and efficient.

LIC Region Manager G Satyanarayan Shastri and State Principal Secretary to Agriculture C Parthasarathi signed an MoU for the implementation of the insurance scheme to be in force from August 15 this year.
