Hyderabad: Former Member of Parliament M Anjan Kumar Yadav had been entrusted with the responsibility of rejuvenating the Congress in the State capital which is being neglected for the past four years. Anjan Kumar Yadav was recently made the president of Hyderabad city Congress. The new president of the city Congress has a difficult task to handle as the party wants to win more seats in the next elections from here.

The Congress appointed Anjan Kumar Yadav, who represented Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat for two times on behalf of the Congress, for Hyderabad district in place of Danam Nagendar, due to his experience, source said.

Anjan had been directed to rebuild the party in 15 Assembly constituencies and 100 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) divisions at the earliest. The Congress wants to win majority of the seats from Hyderabad district in the next elections.

The Congress had put focus on the State capital as it could not win even one seat in the 15 Assembly constituencies in the previous elections. Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won most of the seats being represented by the Congress.

Since then the activities of the Congress were dull and it was able to win only two seats in the elections to the GHMC. Sources in the party said that Danam Nagendar, who was the president of the city Congress for the past four years, did not show much interest in the party activities. He resigned to the Hyderabad City Congress president post. With this the party started the search for an able leader to lead the Congress in Hyderabad, source said.

Finally, the party State leadership zeroed in on Anjan Kumar Yadav for several reasons. Anjan hails from the Yadava community which has a sizable population in the State capital. He had been actively participating in the party programmes for the past four years.

However, party sources said that Yadav has a difficult task before him. He has to complete appointment of division and Assembly committees without much ado. He has to coordinate with several important leaders like V Hanumantha Rao, Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Kodanda Reddy, Sudhir Reddy, Nagendar and others. Apart from this the Congress has to establish good relations with the people of Andhra origin living in Hyderabad.

They have voted against the Congress in Assembly and GHMC elections. In order to appease them the party may have to choose some leaders of Andhra origin for the division and AC committees. Formation of district Congress committees would also be an onerous task for Anjan Kumar Yadav. He needs cooperation and support of former MLAs, MPs of the city.
