Hyderabad : The Congress party has reportedly decided to boycott the Iftar Party being hosted by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on June 10.

According to Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, the Governor's Iftar is being boycotted to protest against the decision of President of India Ramnath Kovind for not hosting Iftar party at Rashtrapati Bhavan. "It is not a surprise and it reflects his background association with RSS. Ever since BJP came to power, it is insulting minorities, particularly Muslims, by taking this type of decisions. Even Prime Minister Narender Modi has given up the tradition of hosting Iftar party on behalf of PM office," he said.

Shabbir Ali said Muslims from all across the world and particularly in India are not bothered with such type of 'cheap tactics' of not hosting Iftar party and also taking away Haj subsidy to hurt the sentiments of a particular community. In reaction to the President's decision, he said he would skip the Iftar party to be hosted by the Governor.

The issue is also likely to be discussed in the meeting of Congress Legislature Party to be held at the residence of CLP leader K. Jana Reddy on Friday.
