Hyderabad: Appointing new office-bearers to the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee is getting delayed as the high command is trying to balance the caste equations and aspirations of senior leaders in the selection of the candidates.

The central leadership of the Congress has rejected a list that was sent by the PCC and they have taken over the responsibility of selecting the names. The exercise may take a few days more and the new executive may be announced thereafter.

According to sources, the high command, which is quite serious about the party affairs in Telangana, has decided to control the state unit activities directly and would come out with some surprising decisions.

Along with the change of in-charge, it may go in for complete overhauling of the PCC to make it more dynamic in the state politics and this has been delaying the announcement of the office-bearers of the Telangana Congress.

Announcement of new office-bearers of the TS Congress is due since the takeover of Rahul Gandhi as president of the AICC. He has issued orders continuing N Uttam Kumar Reddy as president of the PCC but did not take decision on the office-bearers. Though party leaders expected that it would be announced in the first week of March, the AICC has held it back. Senior leaders of the AICC have been working on the new team for the PCC and trying various combinations.

Senior leaders of the party said that the high command wants a balance in the caste equations and the new team should be acceptable to all as much as possible. It did not want that the PCC is dominated by a particular section or group.

The high command wants that the leaders of BCs, SCs, STs and minorities are given enough importance in the new team not undermining the importance of the Reddy community.

It wants that the PCC president, leader of the Opposition, working presidents, and chairpersons of various committees are distributed properly among all the different sections of society so that no community feels it has been let down.

However, selecting the senior leaders for various posts has become a big question for it. Satisfying these leaders would be a difficult task and the selection should be made cautiously. With this the selection has been entrusted to the AICC leaders who have good knowledge of the state affairs.
None of the leaders are ready to play a second fiddle to the other and accommodating them in the office-bearers and in the committees would be a quite difficult.

Several senior leaders of the party, hailing from various sections, like Ponnala Laxmaiah, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Mallu Ravi, Jeavan Reddy, V Hanumantha Rao, Damodar Raja Narasimha, DK Aruna, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, SA Sampath, Revanth Reddy, Vijayashanti, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, Renuka Chowdary, Chinna Reddy, Sridhar Babu, Danam Nagendar, Balaram Naik, Sarvey Satyanarayana, Sabitha Indra Reddy and others are seeking important posts in the new team and better positions in the AICC executive.

Many of these leaders have been aspiring for working president posts. A few are even want the PCC president’s post. Some other leaders are seeking posts of chairpersons of key committees.
