Expelled Congress MLAs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S A Sampath Kumar have filed contempt of court petition against Telangana Law Secretary Niranjan Rao and Telangana Assembly Secretary V Narasimhacharyulu for wilfully disobeying the court orders to reinstate their membership.

They stated that the order of the single judge of the High Court on April 17 setting aside the resolution passed by the Assembly expelling them and also setting aside the consequent notification issued notifying vacancies of the two Assembly constituencies, have not been implemented till date.

Although either the Assembly represented by its Secretary or the government represented by its Law Secretary could have challenged the single judge order within the mandatory period of 30 days, they have chosen not to. However, 12 MLAs of the ruling TRS party filed a writ appeal challenging the order of the single judge and it has been dismissed by the division bench.

The order of the single judge has thus attained finality. The MLAs have sought summoning of the two officials for the hearing. The contempt petition is likely to come up for hearing on Friday.
