Hyderabad: In a blow to G Vivek, the High Court at Hyderabad upheld the decision of Ombudsman of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), Justice (Retd) L Narsimha Reddy held Vivek ineligible to continue as the President of HCA.

The division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K Vijayalakshmi on Tuesday set aside the interim order of the single judge who had stayed the orders of the Ombudsman. With this decision of the Court, G Vivek would have to resign from his post.

The bench also restored the miscellaneous petitions and asked the single judge to hear them afresh. Complaints were lodged with the Ombudsman against G Vivek continuing as President of HCA while he was still a Director in Vishaka Industries Ltd and there was a conflict of interest as the company was associated with the HCA in terms of sponsorship etc.

Also, it was pointed out that Vivek was an Advisor to the Government of Telangana, and he cannot continue in both the posts. The Ombudsman after looking into this issue gave an order in March of this year that Vivek was ineligible to continue as President of HCA.

Vivek challenged the order of the Ombudsman in the High Court and during the hearing the single judge granted an interim order staying the order of the Ombudsman. Aggrieved by this interim order, cricketers Mohd Azharuddin and Babu Rao of Sagar Cricket Club filed two separate Writ Appeals. The division bench heard these appeals and pronounced its judgment on Tuesday upholding the order of the Ombudsman.
