Monsoon gathers momentum, heavy rains lash Telangana

The Southwest Monsoon was active in Telangana during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday. Heavy rain occurred in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad and Peddapalli districts, caused by an upper air trough from the Gangetic West Bengal to North Coastal Andhra across Odisha extending up to 7.6 km above the mean sea level.

​Hyderabad: The Southwest Monsoon was active in Telangana during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday. Heavy rain occurred in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad and Peddapalli districts, caused by an upper air trough from the Gangetic West Bengal to North Coastal Andhra across Odisha extending up to 7.6 km above the mean sea level. The trough now runs from Odisha to south Tamil Nadu across coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, the Met department bulletin said on Tuesday.

On June 12 there were thunderstorms with heavy rain in Komaram Bheem, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Khammam and Suryapet districts.

The chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) in Telangana were: Venkatapur (Bhupalpally) 8, Garla (Mahabubabad), Mulug (Bhupalpally), Manthani (Peddapalli) 7 each, Gudur (Mahbubabad), Bhupalpalli, Mahbubabad 6 each, Nallabelly (Warangal rural), Enkuru (Khammam), Bayyaram (Mahbubabad), Dharmapuri (Jagtial) 5 each, Dornakal (Mahbubabad), Dummugudem (Kothagudem), Govindaraopet (Bhupalpally), Aswapuram (Kothagudem), Perur (Bhupalpalli) 4 each.

There was 3 cm rain each in Sathupalle (Khammam), Luxettipet (Mancherial), Kaleswaram (Bhupalpalli), Utnur (Adilabad), Pinapaka, Mulakalapalle, Tekulapalle, Kothagudem, Julurpad, Yellandu, Gundala (all in Kothagudem), Chennur (Mancherial), Ramgundam (Peddapalle), Thollada (Khammam), Mogullapalle (Bhupalpally), Chennaraopet (Warangal_Rural).

There was rain of 2 cm each in Venkatapuram (Bhupalpally), Shamirpet (Malkajgiri), Burgampadu, Palawancha (both in Kothagudem), Sirpur (Kumaram Bheem), Madhira (Khammam), Manuguru, Chandrugonda, Aswaraopeta (all in Kothagudem), Kothagudem (Warangal_Urban), Konijerla (Khammam), Bhadrachalam (Kothagudem), Khanapur (Warangal_Rural), Tandur (Vikarabad), Doma (Vikarabad). The forecast said light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places in the State from June 13 to 16.
