Khammam: Communist Party of India (CPI-M) activists here on Friday burnt the effigy of the Union government at the Pavilion grounds in protest against its decision not to sanction permission for the proposed steel factory at Bayyaram in Mahabubabad district.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI-M district secretary Nunna Nageswar Rao alleged that the BJP had taken the people for a ride. He recalled that the then Central government had promised to establish the steel factory at Bayyaram during the bifurcation of the State.

The Bayyaram steel factory, if established, would have created employment opportunities for the youth in the erstwhile Warangal and Khammam districts, he said.

He demanded that the TRS government exert pressure on the Centre to establish the steel factor. The TRS MPs should resign if necessary to ensure that the Centre established the steel factory.

With the slogan ‘Bayyaram Ukku-Telangana Hakku,’ the CPI-M party along with the peoples’ organisations would fight against the BJP government, he said.

CPI-M party leaders Y Srikanth, B Lenin, Vikram, Srinivas Rao, P Jahni, T Lingaiah, T Naga Raju, G Rama Devi, B Ramesh, S K Meera, M Upendar, Meharunnisa Begum, Ajitha, Ch Ramesh, B Upendar, Ahsok, Hemanth, Saraswathi, Beemaiah and Gurumurthy were present at the programme.
