370 CCTV cameras to keep watch on Secunderabad station

​Hyderabad: A passenger who arrives in the city by train at Secunderabad Railway Station would be captured for about 50 times by CCTV cameras, said Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar. He was speaking after inaugurating a surveillance system comprising of 370 CCTV cameras at Regimental Bazaar, opposite to the Secunderabad Railway Station on Monday.

The city police officials reviewed the work of Crisis Counselling Centre – Vikalpa, which was started to eradicate commercial sexual exploitation in 2016. The Commissioner said, “CCTV cameras would act as a deterrent of crimes. After installation of CCTV cameras in the past, it has been observed that 60 percent of crime rate has come down.”

Speaking about flesh trade, he said, they needed to create awareness among victims and organisers of flesh trade. He appreciated Vikalpa Counselling Centre for their work in identifying and rescuing victims of human trafficking and flesh trade.

Vikalpa is run by law enforcement agencies, in collaboration with Prajawala, an NGO. They have, so far, counselled as many as 581 persons and sent 95 women to rescue homes. They also made sure conviction to 285 people out of 462 e-petty and 15 FIRs cases.
