Khammam: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) district unit secretary Nunna Nageswar Rao here on Tuesday demanded that the government address the drinking water problem in the city. He urged the government to permit only water plants which would comply with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) only.

The CPI-M party submitted a memorandum to Municipal Assistant Commissioner Ramchander Rao urging him to take necessary steps for solving drinking water problems. Speaking on the occasion, Nageswar Rao alleged that the people in the city were facing severe problems with the sudden closure of all the mineral water plant units.

With the Municipal Corporation drinking water only on alternative days, the people used to buy water form mineral water plants. With the water plants being closed, severe drinking water problem arose in the city, he said.

The CPI-M leaders accused the city Mayor of not being interested in addressing the drinking water problem. When the CPI-M delegation went to meet him, the Mayor, they said, had asked them to come later in the evening.

CPI-M leaders Y Srikanth, Y Srinivas Rao, Y Vikram, T Lingaiah, Sk Meera, B Yakaiah, D Thiruparthi Rao, Md Gouse, Nagamani, Padma, S K Saidulu, S K Babu and V Mallikarjuna Rao were present at the programme.
