Khammam: District Civil Supplies Officer Sandhya Rani here on Tuesday said the responsibility of providing commodities meant for the poor to cardholders rested on the fair price shop dealers.

In a statement here, Sandhya Rani slammed the dealers for threatening to go on strike time and again. The State government, she said, has been spending huge amounts of money for providing succour to the poor.

The government has established the public distribution system in the interests of the poor. She urged them to cooperate with the government by paying the money in the form of demand draft by June 28 in Mee Seva centres for the stocks which are to be supplied to them.

Sandhya Rani further said as per the order of the District Collector, any dealer can be suspended if he/she created disturbance. She said the dealers, who failed to pay for the stocks in time, would be suspended. The Civil Supplies Department has taken all steps to ensure that commodities are supplied to the poor even if the dealers struck work.
