Hyderabad: Telangana Congress President N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday has claimed that only the Congress party could ensure political empowerment of Backward Classes in the country.

Addressing the TPCC's OBC Department Executive Committee meeting, chaired by its chairman Chittaranjan Das, at Gandhi Bhavan, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party has taken up social justice as its key agenda for 2019 elections.

He said Congress president Rahul Gandhi wants social justice to be ensured in the party at all levels. Therefore, he said that the backward classes could expect social justice only through the Congress party.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the BC leaders must strengthen the Congress party and bring it back to power in 2019 elections. He said that the Congress does not confine BCs to symbolic representation, but wants their real empowerment in education, economy and politics.

The meeting was also addressed by AICC OBC Department Chairman Tamradwaj Sahuji, former PCC presidents V Hanumantha Rao and Ponnala Lakshmaiah, MLC Akula Lalitha, former MP Ponnam Prabhakar, Hyderabad DCC President Anjan Kumar Yadav and other leaders.

Addressing a round table conference organised by Telangana Jana Samithi, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the comprehensive land survey done by the State Government proved to be a hype and publicity stunt. He said that the survey was done in an erroneous manner and the records were full of mistakes.

He said that all the opposition parties should pressurise the state government to take measures to correct the mistakes in land records.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS Government came to power on the promise of giving three acres of land for each Dalit family. However, he said that KCR Government has snatched away lands belonging to Tribals on one pretext or the other.

The TPCC Chief also took part in another Round Table conference on Bayyaram Steel Plant held by CPI at Makhdoom Bhavan. He condemned the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre for not honouring the promises of setting up a steel plant at Bayyaram and Railway Coach Factory in Kazipet made in the AP Reorganisation Act.

He said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was apparently afraid of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for some unknown reasons and consequently, he was not presenting any issues pertaining to the state with the Centre. Deputy leader of Congress Legislature Party in Legislative Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy also addressed the roundtable.
