Karimnagar: Stating that Baopet village of Kothapalli mandal in the district is famous for illegal sand transportation. If this continues, soon the village will turn into a desert, Commissioner of Police VB Kamalasan Reddy said that it is the responsibility of the villagers to put a stop to the illegal sand transportation.

It is the responsibility of everyone to hand over the natural resources to the coming up generations by protecting them and using them judicially, he added.

About 300 police personnel, led by the Commissioner, conducted cordon and search operation at Baopet village under commissionerate limits in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Commissioner said about 10,000 workers belonging to 20 different states are working in Karimnagar rural area. A list with the complete details of these workers will be handed over to the owners, where these people are working.

The youth must keep themselves away from gutka and other tobacco products, which will harm the health. Suspect sheets will be opened against those, who indulge in selling banned gutka and tobacco products, he warned.

Kamalasan Reddy appreciated local public representatives, who came forward for installing CCTV cameras in the village and for donating Rs 5 lakhs for the purpose.

The police seized 13 sand tractors, 38 two wheelers and one autorickshaw that do not have proper documents along with gutka packers worth Rs 5,000 and fire crackers worth Rs 3,000. They also recovered 120 kgs of PDS rice stored illegally.

Additional DCP (Law and Order) P Sanjeev Kumar, Karimnagar Rural ACP T Usha Rani, CI Shashidhar Reddy, Kothapalli SI Swaroopraj and 300 police personnel participated in the cordon and search operations.
