​Hyderabad: The 149 passengers aboard a Jazeera Airways Flight had a miraculous escape after the plane’s right-wing engine caught fire soon after landing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Thursday early hours. The alert pilot turned off the engine immediately saving the passengers lives and averting what could have become a major mishap.

All the passengers who were informed about the fire were immediately alighted from the plane. Fire tenders at the airport soon swung into action and doused the fire. According to sources, the flight J9 608, which was bound to Hyderabad from Kuwait, witnessed some sparks in the right-wing engine at 1:30 am on Thursday. Soon, the fire emanated after the aircraft landed on the taxi way. Immediately alarms were buzzed, and the airport security was alerted.

Airport sources said that Air Traffic Control and also some members of the ground staff noticed the fire soon after the plane landed. When they informed the pilot, he immediately shut down both the engines.All the passengers disembarked.

Later, the aircraft was towed from the taxi way to the parking bay. However, a thorough investigation will be conducted into the matter, sources said. Jazeera Airlines officials were not available for comment.
