Hyderabad: The Congress on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had promised to provide Rs 10 crore to each TRS candidate to fight the next elections. It demanded that the national investigation agencies should probe as to how Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has accumulated the money.
Addressing the media, Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammad Shabbir Ali and MLA A Revanth Reddy claimed to have proof to substantiate the allegations and they would be submitted if an inquiry is ordered.
Shabbir Ali said during a meeting with the MLAs, MLCs and MPs at Telangana Bhavan, the Chief Minister had promised to give Rs 10 crore to each candidate for the next elections. It would amount to nearly Rs1,200 crore. The Chief Minister also promised to bear the other election expenditure, roughly Rs 800 crore, and if it is added the total amount of money would be Rs 2,000 crore.
He said that no Chief Minister in the country has made such an offer. The Election Commission of India (ECI) should take up the issue suo motu and order an inquiry. The Enforcement Directorate, the investigating agency on economic offences and Income Tax Department should inquire into the issue, he added.
He said that they have a voice recording of the statement made by the Chief Minister in the meeting and it would be submitted to the Election Commission, ED and IT Departments. If they did not take suo motu action, they would lodge complaints. Stating that they are not averse to the idea of early elections to the Assembly, he said ruling party has the onus of explaining people about the reason for advancing polls.
He said government has been ignoring the plight of the people as there were fewer inflows into the reservoirs of Godavari Basin. He said that water level in Singur was 7 tmcft out of 29 tmcft capacity, 2 tmcft in Nizamsagar against the capacity of 17 tmcft, 3 tmcft in Lower Manair out of 24 tmcft, and 70 tmcft in Sriramsagar against the capacity of 90 tmcft. The farmers did not cultivate paddy in several districts. He criticised the government for playing a mind game with the people to divert attention from the burning issues.
MLA Revanth Reddy said that the ruling party must explain how it would be possible to mobilise 25 lakh people to Prgathi Nevedana Sabha on September 2. He said about 2.5 lakh vehicles are needed to transport people and it would not be possible to provide parking place to them.
The MLA said he was ready to prove the allegation if an inquiry is ordered. He alleged that the TRS is acting like State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Chief Minister is taking directions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
