Vikarabad: The district achieved a unique distinction by gaining top spot in implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the entire country. The district stood fist among 18 districts selected across India. Vikarabad, being a complete rural district could provide the desired benefits to the maximum number of coolies to bag the national award. The scheme intended to contain the migration of rural people and provide employment in their villages itself. This makes them financial security along with creation of social assets.

Unlike other district in the state, the Vikarabad district has maximum number of coolies. Apart from being financially sustained, they are also able to manage their own farm related works. When the centreal team toured to record the field level assessment, they considered the individual progress of the workers. The team visited Kompalli, Madireddipalli, Lingampalli of Nawabpet Mandal, Mammadanpalli, Mulamada and appreciated the implementation of the programme. They considered the works taken up during the years 2016-17, 2017-18.

There are 18 mandals in the district and the scheme is being implemented in 565 villages. The total number of workers in the district are 4,28,490 out of 2,26,763 are utilising the scheme. As many as 1,76,843 workers have job cards and almost 89,994 workers completed the target of 100 days work. There were five districts from the state competed for the national honour out of three districts Kamareddy, Sircilla, Vikarabad bagged the awards. Vikarabad district collector Syed Umar Jaleel along with DRDO Johnson will receive the award from the union minister for rural development at a function to be held at Vignan Bhavan, New Delhi on 11 of this month.
