​Hyderabad: In a day of high-voltage political developments, Telangana State’s first Legislative Assembly was dissolved on Thursday and the incumbent Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and his cabinet was given the responsibility of acting as the caretaker government till the formation of the next government.

At the 15-minute cabinet meeting held at Pragati Bhavan on Thursday afternoon, KCR and his cabinet adopted a one-line resolution in favour of the dissolution of the Assembly and handed it over to Governor ESL Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan who gave his assent immediately thereafter. In a quick follow up action, state Chief Secretary SK Joshi issued an order in consent with the Governor.

“In consequence of the notification issued GO No. 46 Legislature Secretariat dated September 6 dissolving the Telangana state Legislative Assembly with immediate effect, the Governor of Telangana hereby authorises the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and his colleagues in the Council of Ministers to continue in office as caretaker government of Telangana,” the official said in the order.

In a communique issued from Raj Bhavan, Principal Secretary to Governor Harpreet Singh said, “the Chief Minister and along with his colleagues in the Council of Ministers called on the Governor today (September 6) and presented the resolution of the Council of Ministers recommending the dissolution of the first legislative assembly of the Telangana state.

The Governor while accepting the recommendation, requested the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers to continue in office as caretaker government and the Chief Minister agreed to this request.” Then the state Assembly Secretary V Narasimha Charyulu issued a gazette notification dissolving the Aassembly with immediate effect.

The Governor will forward the resolution to the Union Home Ministry while the Assembly secretary will forward the notification to the Election Commission. KCR was the Chief Minister of the state for four years, three months and four days and dissolved the Assembly nine months ahead of its 5-year

As anticipated by all political circles and the media, KCR summoned all his cabinet colleagues to reach the Pragati Bhavan by noon. On an auspicious time in the afternoon, the CM conducted cabinet meeting at around 1.15 pm and wound up by 1.30 pm.
