Hyderabad: Taking exception to the comments of Congress senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad that the TRS had no role in the formation of Telangana, TRS leaders on Friday said that people of Telangana achieved separate State by fighting under the leadership of K Chandrashekar Rao.

Caretaker Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and party MP B Vinod Kumar lashed out at the Congress leader for stating that the TRS had no role in the formation of Telangana. In a meeting at Ibrahimpur in Siddipet, Harish Rao said the Congress never had a commitment on Telangana. “The Congress party was responsible for death of 369 youth during 1969 agitation.

Later, they included Telangana Praja Samithi MPs into the Congress party when they were in Delhi demanding Separate Telangana. The Congress stalwart Pranab Mukharjee asked Chandrashekar Rao to come and take Telangana if he wins in 2004 elections and later included the issue in common minimum programme to delay the process,” Harish Rao said. The Congress party poached 10 out of 25 MLAs of TRS, he added.

Rao said that the Congress leader had clearly said that they agreed for Telangana if TRS gets merged into the Congress, which is clear that they are not bothered about people but votes and seats. He also questioned the Congress leaders as to how they can have an alliance with anti-Telangana party on the proposed alliance between the Congress and the TDP.

Later, in a press conference Vinod Kumar said that the Congress had to give Telangana because it had no other option. “It is ridiculous to say that the TRS had no role in formation of Telangana. Even people of the two Telugu States will laugh at the Congress leaders for this comment. The TRS has talked to 32 political parties and convinced them to support separate State. The Congress is anti-Telangana party and it had to give separate State as last resort to save it's party in Telangana,” said Vinod.

The TRS leader recalled that it was the Congress party, which came to the TRS for alliance in 2004. He asked whether the Congress leaders prepared the bill without consulting the TRS? “Azad thinks that he knows everything about Telangana but in fact he does not know anything," said Vinod.

He said that caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had resigned from Central Cabinet and contested in the Karimnagar bye elections and won with huge margin during the agitation. The Congress leaders are spreading lies only to confuse people, he alleged.
