Water packets strewn all over, citizens care a damn

Khairatabad: The lanes in Khairatabad were filled with plastic water pouches as people started throwing the packets on the road in spite of waste bins placed at several points. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS & SB) arranged more than 30 lakh water packets in 101 areas in the city.

Sannihit, a student of St Martin’s College says, “We have done a campaign on #saynotoplastic and clean the society but there is no change in the people’s attitude as they continue with littering roads.” Another student Reethika says, “The officials arranged the dustbins on the Tank Bund but it is of no use as citizens feel no responsibility towards swacchata.

Bhargavi, a visitor on Tank Band “Mostly these water packets are given in large public gatherings and can’t expect each and every person dispose of plastic waste properly. It’s up to the organizers on how to supply drinking water. Why can’t they provide water in reusable items like metal glasses or pots.

“Even after launching aggressive campaigns over Swachh Bharat Mission in the city, one can witness people litter along the road stretch at Tank Bund. Keeping in mind about the huge crowd the GHMC has arranged waste bins which helps the visitors to throw the waste. But, these waste bins were of no use because the opened water packets were thrown on road.
