Hyderabad: Rubaroo, supported by the British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad and IPartner India, in association with Sultan-ul-Uloom Educational Society organized a conference ‘Navigating through Identities Positively - The Role of Muslim Youth as Global Citizens’ recently at the Ghulam Ahmad Auditorium Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology, as part of Empowering Young Global Citizens programme.

In his welcome address, Zafar Javeed, Secretary, Sultan-ul-Uloom Education Society, said that in the current testing times, political parties, various communities and the media should not encourage any kind of polarization. “We are living in a time when hatred prevails everywhere, hatred between nations, religions, & communities. Unless we take this challenge head on, the legacy of hatred will be carried forward to future generations.

AK Khan, advisor, Minority Affairs, Govt of Telangana, said, “We have been focusing too much on studying Engineering, Medicine etc. The focus has to be on social consciousness and humanity.” “The Telangana government is running over 200 schools for weaker sections, from economically deprived backgrounds, need to be provided life skills and social awareness,” he added. Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commission for Telangana & Andhra Pradesh encouraged all students to empower and make themselves global citizens. He also emphasized on gaining broader perspectives. He invited all to the Heritage Walk to be held on October 2.

A panel discussion was conducted on the issue by Mir Ayub Ali Khan (MAANU), Mahpara Ali (Retd. Chief General Manager, SBI) and journalist Salma Afreen. Later success stories were shared by Md Mushraf Faruqui, Zonal Commissioner GHMC Masood Hussain (Wild Life Photographer) and Sayeda Falak (Gold Medalist US Open Karate Championship 2016). Certificates were issued to all registered participants by Andrew Fleming.
