Nizamabad: Its high-octane political manoeuvring in Nizamabad with K Kavitha wanting to prove a point that the erstwhile district, which gave Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) nine out of nine Assembly seats in 2014 elections, is still a trusted citadel for the pink party.
In the run-up to the Assembly polls, the TRS has a few issues to contend with before it focuses on the Congress-led People’s Alliance. There is a simmering dissidence against the renomination of sitting MLAs in at least three constituencies while the discontent in other seats was also to be used off. Then have that nagging shadowboxing between the TRS and Rajya Sabha member Dharmapuri Srinivas (DS) with each waiting for the other to blink first.
It’s not overstatement to say that Kavitha who shouldered the responsibility of the party affairs in the district is manoeuvring party forces cleverly. Kavitha hit the nail on the head with her efforts to garner the support of Munnurukapus, one of the major communities in the region. It’s termed as a masterstroke especially against the backdrop that both DS and former BJP MLA Yendala Laxminarayana belong to the Munnurukapu community.
She assured the community of establishing Munnurukapu Corporation for their development. The development is likely to help both Nizamabad Urban and Rural candidates - Bigala Ganesh Gupta and Bajireddy Goverdhan Reddy, immensely, as it straightly targeted to undermine the chances of DS group and rebel TRS MLC R Bhoopathi Reddy. The later who joined the Congress is aspiring to contest from the Rural constituency.
This apart, it’s learnt that she already had struck a chord with the Padmashali community and other major castes. Adding more to the pink party’s advantage was the Nizamabad District Marathi Samaj which unanimously announced its support to the TRS in the ensuing elections.
“It virtually seals off the chances of TRS opponents in at least Urban and Rural constituencies, if Kavitha’s moves pay off,” a senior Congress leader told The Hans India, on condition of anonymity. He said that she is resolved to erase the impact of opponent leaders especially DS. Although she is focused on KCR’s meeting right now, she is determined to clear all the hurdles in all seven segments of her Lok Sabha constituency.
On the other hand, it’s speculated that DS is likely to quit his Rajya Sabha seat before joining the Congress on October 11. It may be mentioned here that the TRS had sidelined DS accusing him of anti-party activities following a letter to KCR from Kavitha a few months ago. However, the party didn’t initiate any action against DS and since then there was only a war of words between DS and the party.
With KCR to address his first of poll campaigns of the combined districts at Nizamabad on Wednesday (October 3), Kavitha along with Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy is leaving no stone unturned to make it a grand success.
