Hyderabad: The Mahakutami (Grand Alliance) – a combination of Congress, TDP, CPI and Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) - convened a crucial meeting on Tuesday to finalise seat sharing among the political partners in the ensuing assembly elections to be held on December 7 in Telangana.

TDP has been demanding 20 to 25 seats, CPI wanted 7 to 10 and the TJS is insisting on at least 10 seats to contest the elections as Mahakutami partners. Leaders said that since the Congress was a strong political force in the T-State, the party will decide the number of seats to be allotted to its poll partners and the same will be forwarded to the Congress high command for its final nod. TDP and CPI have already submitted the names of the assembly constituencies where the winning prospects are bright for both the parties.

The Congress and TDP leadership have already locked horns on finalisation of the seats in some assembly segments where the two parties claimed maintaining strong cadre and people’s support. For instance, TDP Telangana president L Ramana made up his mind to contest from Jagtial assembly segment from where Congress senior leader and sitting MLA in the just dissolved assembly Jeevan Reddy is confident of retaining the seat this election.

Another senior leader Bollam Mallya Yadav is demanding Kodad from where TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy’s wife N Padamavathi was elected MLA in 2014 elections. Yadav is hold strong political grip in the segment.

Mahakutami leaders already identified nearly 30 constituencies where the partners are vying for the allotment of the seats to their prospective candidates.

All these issues will be discussed in the daylong meeting and evolve consensus among the partners before announcing the candidates ensuring no rebel threat in the elections. The issue of Common Minimum Programme (CMP) will also figure in the meeting.
