Vikarabad: District Collector Syed Umar Jaleel on Wednesday urged political leaders to cooperate with them in peaceful conduct of elections. He was speaking at a meeting on model code of conduct with the representatives of recognised political parties and police officials here at collectorate on Wednesday. The Collector urged political parties to conduct their election campaigns as per the directives of Election Commission. If any violations are observed, necessary action would be taken as per law against the parties, he warned.

He further said that any use of government vehicles, properties, machinery, or guest houses by the ruling party was prohibited. Political leaders were told not to attend any government official programs. Political parties, however, can use private properties but with the permission of owners, he said. He said that all the banners and posters had been removed.

The Collector also reviewed the security arrangements made for conduct of elections. He instructed police to arrange check posts in areas bordering Karnataka to prevent transport of illegal liquor and cash. If necessary, services of NSS/NCC /home guard can be utilised, he said. He also instructed police to organise flying squads to monitor the situation. He ordered the officials to ensure that public meetings, rallies and meetings were held only after getting permission from authorities concerned. He asked police submit a report on check posts.

Superintendent of Police Annapurna said that police should ensure the election programmes were conducted from 6 am to 10 pm. She instructed them to make sure that no public inconvenience was caused due to elections campaign programs. She warned legal action would be taken against those violating the model code of conduct.

Among those participated in the meeting were JC Aruna Kumari, Additional SP Narsimhulu, DRO Mothilal, DRDO Johnson, RDOs Vishwanatham, Venu Madhav Rao, DSPs Shirisha, Ravindra Reddy and Ramachandrudu, the representatives of recognised political parties and others.
