There seems no end for the depth and breadth to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad JNTUH exercise to identify fake degree holders working as faculty members in various private engineering colleges affiliated to it
Hyderabad: There seems no end for the depth and breadth to the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H) exercise to identify fake degree holders working as faculty members in various private engineering colleges affiliated to it.
According to sources, the university had initially focused on the verification of the Postgraduate and doctoral degree certificates of the faculty members to identify fake degree holders. Also, details of the earlier ratification of their degrees paved way for them to continue as faculty members. But, the situation has gone deeper with questions raised over some of the faculty members bachelor’s degrees in technology.
Following this, the University Director of Academic Audit Cell has slapped a fresh circular to all the Private Engineering Colleges to upload faculty particulars by 5 pm on October 12, this year. This time the faculty members will have to update their teaching experience, certificates obtained from the board, university along with their hall ticket and roll numbers and year of passing.
In addition, they were also asked to update details related to the subjects taught in various colleges or in the same college since they have joined as faculty members. Also, the faculty members will have to provide information on how many times they have taught each subject. Speaking to The Hans India, a senior official said that for this, the university has given a separate page in the faculty registration portal.
"Each of the faculty members will have to login on the faculty registration page and upload the details in a proforma given and upload their credentials, experience documents in the relevant fields," he added.
However, some of the faculty members who were earlier asked to attend the interviews for the verification of their certificates opined that the portal was taking a hell of time for them. Because, the college names are not in order and jumbled. This makes one to comb the entire list to select a college. In addition to this, there are three categories under the doctoral degree like "PhD - PHD and PhD Management.
That apart, there are several Boards under the Secondary School Education and the drop down menus and auto fill giving those trying to upload a nightmare, and it was taking ages to get a response from the helpline," they added. Besides, they feel so much unnecessary information was being uploaded in the name of the verification.
However, the university officials claim that they wanted to scan all the educational antecedents of the candidates as not doing earlier had resulted to take advantage of the loopholes in the system. "For years, people never questioned them. Several of those working in private engineering colleges who are now under the scanner continue to work by showing their earlier ratification as faculty members. How they were ratified earlier, who ratified them remained a million dollars question. But, that is not our focus at present," the sources clarified.
