Hyderabad: The language being used by politicians from ruling and opposition parties in Telangana in electioneering meetings over the last few weeks has been very appalling.

Abuses hurdled in Telugu language like “thoo Mee Bathuku Cheda...Dora...Sannasi...Taagubothu... Battebaaz....Delhi Ka Ghulam...Amaravati Ki Baanisalaudama...Simham Singlegaaney Vasthundhi...Aa gattuna untava-ee gattuna untava..Kabardaar...Maha Gatiya Bandhan...Jaffa Kutami…” etc have been common in the State electioneering meetings. Apart from speaking about their plans to develop Telangana during the next five years if voted to power and other promises, leaders are indulging in rhetoric and jargon to slam their rivals.

War of words laced with criticism and counter-criticism between parties is not new during election period. However, the pitch increased this time with personal attacks as State gears up for assembly elections on December 7. And with so much media glare on activities and meetings of political parties on daily basis, this political slur is catching everyone's attention.

Caretaker Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrashekar Rao has minced no words in launching an all-out attack against the Congress for joining hands with Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which he termed as an Andhra Party that is conspiring for hegemony over people of Telangana.

During his public meeting in Nizamabad, he told Congressmen “Thoo Mee Bathukulu Cheda,” which means “let your lives go to waste.” However, this phrase is most commonly used in Telangana. A person in an angry mood utters this phrase.

Taking strong objection to the Congress and the TDP, who are bitter political rivals for last 35-years, joining hands to dethrone the TRS government in Telangana, Chandrashekar Rao tried to rake up Telangana sentiment in people of the State with his statement, “Delhi ki Amaravati ki Baansilaudama.”

He made an appeal to them to decide whether they want self-rule (by voting for TRS) or whether they would like to become slaves of New Delhi or Amaravati (by voting for the Congress-TDP combine).

He has been stressing on this point. Congress star campaigner and former MP Vijayashanti is addressing Chandrashekar Rao as “Dora” mostly in election meetings. She alleged that Chandrashekar Rao was acting like a Dora not bothering about people of the State. In villages, Dora is a common word used to address village head or the land-lord belonging to Reddy or Velama community.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Uttam Kumar Reddy and Congress leaders like D K Aruna, Revanth Reddy, and V Hanumantha Rao are using words like Battebaaz, Sannasi, Taagubothu to affect the morale of the opposite camp. This has not gone down well with K Chandrashekar Rao, who objected to use of such lingo against a person holding the post of Chief Minister of the State.

Chandrashekar Rao’s son and caretaker Minister K T Rama Rao has not let go the opportunity to criticise the opposition parties with statements, some of which are dialogues and songs from recent Telugu blockbusters. Simham Singlegaaney Vasthundhi...Aa gattuna untava-Ee gattuna nuntava are being used frequently by him and other TRS leaders. Rama Rao has also addressed Mahakutami (Maha Gatbandhan) as Maha "Gatiya" Bhandhan and also Jaffakutami.
