Incumbent MLA of Old City Mohammad Moazam Khans veiled attack on opposition during his speech in a meeting at Osman Bagh on Tuesday drew flak from different quarters, and the video went viral on social media

Bahadurpura: Incumbent MLA of Old City Mohammad Moazam Khan’s veiled attack on opposition during his speech in a meeting at Osman Bagh on Tuesday drew flak from different quarters, and the video went viral on social media. The third-time MLA, who is considered to be one of the best candidates of MIM, mostly remained non-controversial, but his latest speech drew media attention and criticism.

In his 10-minute speech, he quoted the words of late Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi (revered as Salar-e-Millat). He said “koi hamarku chedna nai’, chedeto hum chodtey nai” (None should prod us; we will not leave those who do). Later, he went on to say, “MIM agar apney pe ajayegi to kisi key khandanon ko bhi nahi chodegi” (If the party takes a stand, even the families will not be spared).

Reacting to this alleged attack on opposition, social media went abuzz with comments, like ‘change in tone’ of a ‘gentleman,’ on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, the leaders of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) described the speech as the true colour of the incumbent MLA, who is generally considered to be a soft person. “During the last 10 years, he never opened his mouth nor taken up any developmental works. With the Election heat on, even his tongue is wriggling,” said MBT leaders. However, the MIM workers said that Moazam Khan’s 10-minute-speech video clip was being circulated only to defame the leader and was taken out of context. They clarified that during the speech he mostly talked about developmental activities taken up by MIM party in Bahadurpura.

During the speech, Moazam Khan talked about how MIM influenced TRS in making decisions on welfare programmes for Muslims, such as overseas scholarship of Rs 30 lakh and an increase in budget from Rs 1,100 crore to Rs 2,000 crore. “Muslims got benefitted from the hike in budget in getting scholarships, fee reimbursements and loans of Minority Finance Corporation,” he said. Later, he asked the party workers to take forward the message that MIM was behind the welfare measures taken by the government.
