Congress contestants yen for poll drive by Sonia, Rahul to bolster chances

​Hyderabad: Several senior leaders of the Congress are eagerly waiting for the campaign of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and AICC president Rahul Gandhi in their respective constituencies or the district to garner the votes.

Leaders Jagga Reddy, Revanth Reddy and others have been asking the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) to arrange the campaign of mother and son in their respective constituencies and districts.

TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy told them to send their requests and promised them to forward the same to the AICC for consideration. He said that Sonia and Rahul would address as many as ten public meetings.

Few leaders of the Congress who have better access to the TPCC and the AICC have been trying to bring Rahul and Sonia for campaign in their own constituencies. Rahul Gandhi addressed a public meeting at Kamaredd, from where CLP leader in Council Shabbir Ali is likely to contest.

Former MLA of Nalgonda Komatireddy Venkat Reddy urged the TPCC to arrange a public meeting of Rahul in Nalgonda. Jagga Reddy requested the meeting at Sangareddy and Revanth Reddy at Mahbubnagar or in
Kodangal.

According to party leaders the seniors wants to ensure their victory at any cost in their constituencies and are leaving no stone unturned in this regard. Leaders like Jagga Reddy who lost in the previous elections, though they were strong in their own constituencies, now wants to ensure their win.

They believe that campaign of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia would invoke the sentiment factor among the voters and would ensure good number of votes. Several senior leaders lost in the previous elections as the credit for formation of Telangana State has gone to TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao.

The leaders said that the response Rahul Gandhi received during his visits to the State were also another reason for seeking his campaign. Rahul visited Telangana in August and October and received overwhelming response from the people. In fact, his visits have changed the political equations.

Rahul’s criticism against caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been received well by the people in the Bhainsa, Kamareddy and Charminar public meetings. They said that on the other hand a visit of Sonia would boost the morale of the Congress much more as she was instrumental in formation of Telangana.
