Nagarkurnool: The Excise police of Nagarkurnool district intercepted a Maruti car at Sunnipenta village of Ambrabad mandal on Friday and seized 300 kilograms of jaggery being illegally smuggled by two persons.

As part of their regular vehicle checking, the Excise police were inspecting the vehicles near Sunnipenta village under Ambrabad mandal limits. On intercepting a Maruti car, the police stumbled upon a bag of Jaggery weighing 300 kilograms being illegally transported. “We have seized 300 kgs of jaggery being illegally transported.

As the government has imposed a strict ban on the transportation of jaggery, smuggling it without proper documents and purpose of use is illegal. We have taken into custody two persons and investigating the matter further,” informed Ambrabad police. Police suspect that the jaggery is being illegally smuggled to be later on sold to the tribal people and others who use it for manufacturing illicit liquor.
