​Hyderabad: The Election Commission seized a total amount of Rs 31.41 crore in cash ever since the model code of conduct came into effect in Telangana. Liquor worth Rs one crore was also caught during checks conducted. Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Rajat Kumar here on Saturday said that strict vigilance was being maintained in the State and also borders of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and AP to curb liquor smuggling and money flow in the State.

Addressing the media, the official said that the State police seized Rs 25.83 crore and Rs 5.58 crore was caught by the Income Tax (IT) department. The Commission in coordination with the IT and police officials is ascertaining the source of the seized money. He said that a meeting with the top officials of neighbouring States will be held soon to tighten vigilance on the flow of illegal liquor and money to the States during the election period.

As part of maintaining law and order, Rajat Kumar said that 43,101 bound over cases were booked and warrants issued to more than 3,000 persons, six unlicensed arms were seized, and 7,411 licensed arms were deposited. The CEO said that he requested the Centre to deploy 307 companies of paramilitary forces for the purpose of elections, while 22 already arrived, three more are on their way to the State.

Referring to the electoral rolls, the Returning Officers (ROs) are receiving applications from the voters to correct errors, if any. Accessibility Observers will visit the State from November 24 to 26 to study the poll related arrangements being made by the Commission with the help of the State government. The CEO also said the Commission allotted symbols to 22 registered political parties which will contest the elections in the State.
