Hyderabad: The City of Pearls witnessed the fabulous second edition of Hyderabad Ultra Marathon, organised by NEB Sports Entertainment Pvt Ltd in association with IDBI Federal Life Insurance Quest for Excellence with Pullela Gopichand. The ultimate running event saw more than 4,000 runners participating in categories spread across 50K, 25K, 12.5K and 5K.
“Hyderabad has always been a special running city for me, and I am glad to see such an overwhelming response and support for the second year” said Nagaraj Adiga, the CMD of NEB Sports and Race Director of HUM 2018. It was a stupendous performance by the runners of Hyderabad. The route was not only long and tough, but also gave extra challenge to the regular marathon runners. The undeterred grit and determination to push themselves and break boundaries under the blazing sun and on hilly terrains made the run, truly ultra.
NEB Sports has conducted several training runs to help prepare runners for their big day. NEB’s eco-friendly practices in all its events like using of re-usable cutlery, glasses and packaging and delicious hot breakfast was a great hit among the people of Hyderabad, which is a rare thing to witness at an event of this level. This ultra running event was no less than a carnival with folk and various other entertainment performances throughout the route to help runners ease out.
Pullela Gopichand, the face of the Run said: “It’s heartening to see people of the city take fitness seriously and come forward to such events that focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle. We are happy that all these people experienced a good race.”
Dr S.K Joshi, Special secretary (Irrigation & CAD, was present and presented the awards to all the winners. NEB Sports Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and Hyderabad Ultra Marathon now represent 10 of the 12 members of the Indian Team who will be running the Asia Oceania 24 Hours Run in Taipei. They are Aparna Choudhary, Hema Saini, Mamta Jaiswal, Manoj Bhat, Meenal Kotak, L Meena, SatpalRayka, Smriti Kathait, Sunil Sharma and Vishal Adhau. The team is led by Sunil Chainani. These runners have years of experience in running Ultras in India and abroad. Most of them have also been consistently winning podium positions in India since the past few years.
