Hyderabad: A round table conference conducted on Monday in Hyderabad formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to fight against DG Prisons V K Singh and his behaviour towards media. Print and electronic media Editors and channel heads, Indian Journalists Union leaders, TUWJ leaders, senior journalists and people’s organisations’ leaders participated in the conference.

They unanimously condemned the derogatory remarks made by Singh against the media. They demanded an unconditional apology from V K Singh. The journalist leaders demanded immediate withdrawal of extorsion cases against HMTV and Raj News journalists.

Journalist leaders opined that since the caretaker government is in existence, it is the duty of the Chief Secretary to intervene into the matter and order a thorough enquiry on the whole episode and bring out the truth.
The round table conference was conducted for more than two hours and the speakers lashed out at the State government for giving free hand to the Police department to do whatever they want.

Speaking in the conference, Indian Journalists Union (IJU) President Devulapally Amar lashed out at the TRS government for encouraging the police officials by funding them to file cases against media in several incidents.

He alleged that by funding the bureaucrats, the State government is encouraging them to file cases against the media. He said that the State government was giving free hand to the police and other officials to do whatever they wanted to do. He questioned about the most wanted criminal Nayeem encounter case and asked the government about the action taken against the police officers and politicians involved in the Nayeem case. He said they are moving happily and freely as if nothing happened. He said that the Press Council of India (PCI) will take V K Singh’s issue as suo moto and fight for justice.

Sakshi Editorial Director Ramachandra Murthy advised the journalists to intensify their agitation as the indications came that nothing is going to happen from the government side. He criticised V K Singh for making derogatory statements intentionally without approaching the Broadcasters Association and Journalists Ethics committee if he had any objections about the story telecasted by the HMTV and Raj News.

Telangana Media Academy Chairman Allam Narayana said even after not getting salaries on time, the journalists are working in the favour of the society round the clock. He criticised the rulers for giving extra freedom to Police officials.

Praja Paksham Editor Srinivas Reddy, Senior Journalist Shailesh Reddy, Veekshanam Editor Venu Gopal, Nava Telangana editor Veeraiah and TUWJ, TUWJF opined to come together and fight for justice. They extended their full support in the future course for fighting against the behaviour of V K Singh. They advised HMTV and Raj News management and staff to fight legally also in the court.

HMTV CEO Srinivas Reddy said that they already have filed a writ petition in the court against the extorsion cases filed against its staff. He added very soon they will also file complaints to the Press Council of India for justice.
