Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore instructed booth-level officers to verify the applications of new voter enrolments received from 15 constituencies in GHMC limits, in a special program held on Sunday. On Monday morning, he, along with GHMC and police officials, inspected proposed DRC and counting centers. He spoke at Amberpet Municipal stadium where booth level officers’ meeting was held on Monday. Kishore said that the officers need to play an important role in increasing the polling percentage and in preparing voter lists.

To conduct elections in a transparent manner, the Election commission of India has introduced Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPATs), he said. He instructed officers to bring awareness on VVPATs among voters. He said that necessary arrangements were being made to ensure that all the physically-challenged voters exercise their votes. He asked booth-level officers to take up the responsibility of bringing all the physically-challenged voters to their respective polling centers to enable them to participate in voting. He exhorted them to increase voting percentage. About 53 per cent voted in the city in the previous elections. He asked them to distribute voter slips from December 4 to 6. A special help desk at each polling station should be established to help and provide necessary information to city voters, he said.

DRC centers inspected

As part of arrangements made for implementing upcoming elections, GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore and city police Additional Commissioner DS Chouhan inspected various DRC centers on Monday. They finalized the proposed DRC centers for various constituencies at Osmania University, OU MBA College, Reddy Women’s College, Koti Women’s College, Sankethika Bhavan and Masab Tank Polytechnic College. Later, they, along with joint commissioner AR Srinivas and returning officers, reviewed arrangements at DRC centers. Speaking on the occasion, Dana Kishore said that surveillance cameras are being arranged at all the DRC centers and that training would be soon given to all the poll staff.
