Hyderabad: Diwali took out the diwala out of quite a few people. Literally. Three adults and one child were operated on Thursday, a day after Diwali celebrations. Injured were brought to Sarojini eye Hospital from late Wednesday night and in the early hours of Thursday.

More than 200 cases of injuries were reported across the city and persons with eye injuries were taken to the Sarojini Eye Hospital numbering over 50. Speaking to The Hans India, Dr Ravinder Goud, superintendent, Sarojini Eye Hospital said, “Parents need to be careful. It is their responsibility to see that children are safe. Even a slight injury to the eye can be fatal. Patients suffer throughout their lives.”

Last year eight patients were admitted out of which four were seriously injured and are still recovering. Dr Srinivas Prasad of the Trauma department, Sarojini Eye Hospital said, “Compared to last year, the inpatients were less. Eye injuries during Diwali festivals can be avoided and should be. Eye is a delicate part and needs great care.” A 65-year-old woman travelling in an auto-rickshaw sustained critical injury when a 'rocket' hit her.
