Medchal: The constituency figures among those occupying the centre-stage in State politics, as the ruling TRS, which won the constituency once, is hesitating in declaring its candidate. The constituency missed out on its TRS candidate in the first and the second nominees list for the December elections. Though his candidature is yet to be announced, Sudheer Reddy who created history for the pink party by winning the seat in 2014 elections, is busy conducting poll campaign in Medchal.
According to party sources, Malkajgiri MP Chamakura Malla Reddy has also started lobbying for the ticket. According to political pundits, The TRS high command is determined to regain the seat while waiting for the Grand Alliance candidate to be named shortly. Apart from Sudheer Reddy and Malla Reddy, Nakka Prabhakar Goud is also one of the aspirants for TRS ticket.
As of now Mohan Reddy of BJP is the only official candidate among the main political parties. The Congress which leads the Grand Alliance consisting of TDP, TJS and CPI is also facing problems in selecting candidate. With more and more aspirants knocking on its doors, the party leadership is being forced to adopt delaying tactics. Former legislator K Lakshma Reddy, party OBC cell state president Thotakura Vajresh Yadav, TPCC vice-president Vuddemarri Narsimha Reddy are key aspirants so far. There will be a triangle war between TRS, BJP and Grand Alliance. The constituency with 4,85,000 voters consists of Medchal, Shameerpet, Ghatkesar, Keesara and Medipally mandals.
The constituency witnessed 12 elections so far where leaders from Reddy community won seven times, BCs thrice, SCs twice and leader from Brahmin community won the seat for once. Party wise, the Congress and Congress-I won seven times, TDP four times and TRS won the seat for once. Dr Marri Chenna Reddy become Chief Minister after being elected from here in 1978. Sumitra Devi who won the seat twice was elected another three times from other constituencies. Tulla Devender Goud made political debut with TDP as ZP chairman and became Home Minister for undivided Andhra Pradesh after getting elected thrice from the constituency. Sumitra Devi, Uma Venkatrami Reddy and K Surendra Reddy also became ministers after they won the seat.
