Hyderabad: An update about recent advances in cancer care named ‘International Cancer Conclave – 2018’ was organised by American Oncology Institute (AOI), here on Friday. The conference is also being organised at Nagpur and Colombo. Dr. Stanley Marks, chairman of UPMC Cancer Centre said, “Each type of cancer needs a customized treatment plan and most of them need more than one modality of treatment such as radiation, medical or surgical oncology. A collaborative multi-disciplinary approach, wherein the surgeon, medical and radiation oncologist based on standardised protocols is the best approach for management of cancer.”
“American Oncology Institute (AOI) conducts a weekly international tumor board where leading cancer experts from United States participate in clinical decision making along with their Indian counter parts in our attempt to bring the most recent treatment modalities to the people of South Asia. This conclave is our endeavour to bring such advanced cancer care protocols and pathways to the larger community of clinicians in South Asia to benefit as many patients as possible,” said Dr Ajay Bhatnagar, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Radiation Oncology at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Radiation Oncologist at Alliance Cancer Centre.
Dr Jagprag Singh Gujral, CEO of AOI, said: “AOI was started in India in Hyderabad and is now the fastest growing network of oncology care hospitals across South Asia, currently with 10 operational facilities and 6 more new facilities coming up in the next 12 months, our endeavour is to bring international standards of cancer care to the population of South Asia.”
