Tarnaka: Former minister Dr Shankar Rao on Sunday joined the Samajwadi Party, after resigning from the Congress, in the presence of SP State president Prof Simhadri. He said he had joined the SP as he was attracted by the manifesto of the party and its president Akilesh Yadav.

Speaking to the media, the former Shadnagar MLA stated that he had sent his resignation letter to AICC president Rahul Gandhi. He alleged that the Congress had become a party for Reddys, and was not representing the interests of the weaker sections. Dr Rao, while expressing anguish over the ‘injustice’ done to him, pointed out that he had served as MLA for five times and was a minister twice.
