Hyderabad: The Milad-un-Nabi, marking the Prophet Muhammad’s birth anniversary (as per Islamic Calendar), was celebrated across the City by the devout, recalling His teachings and contribution to the humanity at large. The All India Majlis Tameer Millat, a Muslim representative voluntary organisation of Muslims, organised a public meeting as part of the celebrations of birth anniversary of the Prophet Mohammed. This year the 69th public meeting organised on occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, ‘Yaum Rahmatulil Aalameen’ was held at Exhibition Grounds, Nampally on Wednesday.

According to organisers, the main moto of the public meeting ‘Yaum Rahmatulil Aalameen’ is ‘Muslims should live life according to the Islamic Shariya.’ Speaking on the occasion, some of the speakers emphasised unity amongst the community. Advocate Syed Jaleel Ahmed, the president of the organisation who presided over the function, called upon the devout voluntarily take vow to unite with one another. Eminent scholars and intellectuals like Prof Akhter ul Wasey, Prof Emeritus Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi, Prof Mohammed Shakeel Ahmed Samdani of Aligarh Muslim University, Moulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed Shaik ul Jamia Nizamia and Moulana Khalid Safullah Rahmani and others addressed the gathering.

Streets were enlightened with colourful lights and decorations on the occasion of Milan un Nabi, which is celebrated by Sunni Muslims on the 12th day of Rabi Ul awal. Shia Muslims celebrate it on 17th Rabi Ul awal (Islamic Calendar). Green flags were seen everywhere and planted at every junction and loud speakers played nath all day. Different kinds of processions were taken out in various parts of city. This is also the time when sales of flags, LED serial bulbs and other illumination material increased. Mohd Qasim a temporary staller at Pathergatti, says, “Everyone from children to shop owners buy them. The most common ones sold are the ones with the crescent moon.”

To mark the occasion, religious organisations like Anwar-e-Mustafa Society also organised processions on camels, horses and motor cycles. Religious scholars from across the country have been invited to deliver sermons. In the evening, procession of Naqsh-e-Nalain-e-Mubarak (copy of the foot imprint of the Prophet) was taken out; it was led by Mirza Riyaz ul Hassan Effendi, Dabeerpura Corporator.
