Hyderabad: In an effort to contribute for the on-going elections in the state, the Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) is launching ‘Ungli challenge’ to create awareness and to encourage voting. The association has also recently carried out a first-of-its-kind political hackathon, involving IT professionals and political parties.

TITA President Sundeep Kumar Makthala threw an open challenge to kick-start the initiative. Voting plays a crucial role in the democratic system. The last year has witnessed voting up to 71 per cent in the state. However, the city has witnessed only 53 per cent voting. In places where software engineers reside, voting was only 32 per cent. With an aim to increase voting percentage in the city, especially among the IT areas, Makthala initiated the challenge. As a part of the challenge, participants will have to dance according to the preset choreography highlighting the importance of voting. These performances have to be posted on social media by using the hashtag, #UngliChallenge, and on different networks including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The challenge that involves techies directly, engaging them to post their performances and messages on social media has already grabbed attention. The challenge that began on Monday will continue till November 30. Top five dance performances and top five messages will be given awards. Makthala said with the success seen in the past initiatives, TITA is rolling out the initiative. Software engineers will largely participate in the challenge. In addition to Hyderabad, the initiative will soon be extended across the state.
