​Hyderabad: Money to influence voters is flowing across poll-bound Telangana state like flood. The police so far have seized more than Rs 100 crore, which were allegedly being shifted to various locations for distribution to voters to influence their decision on the polling day.
According to Director-General (Law and Order) Jitender, till December 6, Rs 93 crore unaccounted cash with gold and diamond items altogether worth more than Rs 100 crore was seized across the state. The seizure includes Rs 30 crore in Hyderabad, Rs 11 crore in Warangal, Rs 10 crore in Adilabad and Rs 4 crore in Cyberabad.
While Income-Tax officials seized Rs 25 crore across the state, excise department officials seized 6-lakh litres liquor worth Rs 11 crore. More than Rs 6.78 crore platinum, diamonds, gold and silver items have been seized. Ganja and other items weighing 267-kg worth Rs 60 lakh and more than Rs 1.68 crore gifts and other items have been seized during the vehicle checks.
He said this time hawala cash was seized in huge amounts by doing intensive vehicle checkings across the state. A sum of Rs 3.13 crore unaccounted hawala cash was seized in Jubilee Hills. In Banjara Hills, the police seized Rs 2.11 crore and Rs 60-lakh worth gold from eight suspected persons. Task Force sleuths arrested them when they were trying to transport it in cars to distribute the amount to Sangareddy.
In other incidents at Serilingampally, the police caught Rs 70 lakh, at Saifabad they seized Rs 48 lakh. Rs 50 lakh seized from a person by name Gali Balaji at Nampally who is alleged to be a close associate of Cantonment Congress candidate.
The arrested person said that on the directions of Congress leader Sarve Satyanarayana he collected the cash from one Dileep in Begum Bazar. From TDP leader Jupudi Prabhakar Rao associates, the police seized Rs 17.5 lakh.
At Gachibowli they seized Rs 40 lakh and arrested two who confessed that they were transporting the money to distribute to the voters in Shadnagar. Additional DG said they filed cases against Sangareddy Congress contesting candidate T Jayaprakash Reddy, Serilingampally TDP contesting candidate Anand Prasad, Medchal TRS candidate Ch Malla Reddy, Cantonment Congress candidate Sarve Satyanarayana and one TDP leader Jupudi Prabhakar Reddy. He appealed to public to come out and exercise their franchise without any fear as huge security arrangements have been made by the police.
Jitender said that about one lakh police personnel were deployed for the polling day. More than 4,000 villages across the state were found to be sensitive where checkposts have been formed at each area. He ruled out any effect of Maoists on Telangana and each and every step has been taken to meet any untoward incident by them. At each polling station mobile teams have been deployed. Additional DG said 414 flying squads, 404 SS teams, 3,385 patrolling teams and 279 Central Company forces were on job on the polling day.
