Charminar: Welcoming the results of Assembly elections in the State, the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) asserted that the organisation had clearly sensed the under-currents way ahead of anyone and took a decision to back the TRS.
Its state president Hamid Mohammed Khan welcomed the verdict of the State’s Assembly elections and affirmed that the decision to back the TRS was taken after a series of deliberations within the organisation for several days over the ground situation. “A political study committee was set-up and an exercise on considering the opinions and views of Jamaat’s local leadership at unit and district level was initiated. After which a series of meetings were held, and regular inputs were received from them.
A survey was also undertaken up by the youth wing of the organisation in this endeavour. We were far ahead in sensing the undercurrent and remained steady over the decision despite pressure from different sections of the community. We also explained the reasons behind taking such a decision and important factors were also revealed for backing the regional party. The decision was taken after deliberations and hence people also supported our decision, which is reflected in the elections of the Telangana,” said Khan.
It may be mentioned here that JIH openly backed the TRS in the elections by announcing officially in the month of November. Despite of being a pan-India organisation, the local leadership decided to support the regional party over national party like Congress after its assessment that an alliance of regional parties would form the next government in the Centre. The organisation had listed out developmental activities taken up by the TRS government in the last four-and-a-half years and said that the party should be given another chance to form a government to fulfil the remaining promises made to the people.
Moreover, the leadership argued that since a majority of regional parties were opposed to the BJP and Congress, a third alternative would emerge in the form of coalition of regional parties, referring to the possibility of TRS and some other parties materialising this objective. Further, the JIH president said when compared to Congress (2004-2014), the TRS (2014-2018) performed better in key indicators such as state budget, minority budget, growth rate, state GDP, per capita income, new area brought under irrigation, law & order, flagship schemes and other welfare programmes.
