Nampally: The High Court advocate, Rapole Bhaskar, filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) at the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Friday, seeking appointment of psychologists in junior and degree colleges to prevent suicides of students under GO 19.

In two states of AP and Telangana, there are 958 government junior colleges and 3,700 private institutions and about 50 lakh students are currently studying in these colleges, he took to the notice of the commission.

Under the guise of coaching for entrance exams, the students of the private colleges are subjected to severe mental stress and about 11,000 students committed suicides in the last 20 years, he said. He appealed the court to order the state governments to intervene in the matter and appoint psychologists to each college to prevent mental stress of students.
