​Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar stated that the overall crime rate in the city in 2018 has gone down by 6 per cent. Addressing the Annual Round-Up 2018 press conference at Chowmahalla Palace in Old City on Wednesday, the Commissioner said the property crimes were decreased by 20.5 per cent compared to last year. He also added that the property recovery rate in grave crimes increased to 92 per cent.
The crime against women, girls and weaker sections also declined, with dowry death cases down by 38 per cent, kidnapping cases by 12 per cent and outraging modesty by 7 per cent. In rape cases, there was no change as the figures indicate that in 2017, 172 rape cases registered, where as in 2018, 173 cases were reported. In 2017, overall 16,140 cases were reported, whereas in 2018, 15,215 cases were reported.
In 2017, 53 chain snatching offences occurred, whereas in 2018, only 20 chain snatching cases occurred with a reduction of 62 per cent, which is all time low when compared with the chain snatching cases in other metro cities of the country. The response time to the complaints is considerably minimised through intensified patrolling and strategic police pickets.

Invoking PD Act on more than 100 notorious and repeated offenders have brought down the crime rate. Last year, the PD Act was invoked on 53 offenders where as this year, it was invoked on 102 offenders. CCS Detective Department disposed 322 cases and arrested 284 offenders. Women Police Station disposed 819 cases. Cyber Crime Police solved 150 cases out of 401 cases reported. 212 accused were arrested from 17 States in India including 9 foreigners and Rs 2.3 crore was recovered. The sensational case was Heera group fraud which worth about Rs 3,000 crore.
He opined this all happened due to constant surveillance through criminal tracking system, cordon and search operations, Operation Chabutra, Community CCTV installations, clues team and Finger Print Unit support, integrated traffic management system and co-ordinate effort of all wings of city police.
In city traffic, the overall accident rate decreased by 2 per cent and deaths reduced by 1 per cent. Meanwhile, SHE Teams registered 1,028 cases this year compared to 722 last year. The Task Force detected 20 murders, 54 robberies, four dacoities, 100 burglaries, 33 snatching cases, 63 accused arrested in NDPS Act, 101 persons arrested in Cricket bettings.
