Hyderabad: All India Unani Tibbi Congress New Delhi Academic Wing will organise a two-day national seminar on ‘Unani Medicine & Non-Communicable Diseases’ at Urdu Maskan near Charminar on December 28 and 29. Approximately 400 delegates from Telangana and Other states of India are participating in the seminar and many will present their research papers during the scientific sessions. Eminent and renowned scholars of this stream of medical sciences will also present their research papers. During the two-day programme, academicians, research scholars, practitioners of Unani will be presented awards.
The organisers, representing All India Unani Tibbi Congress, Prof Mushtaq Ahmed, Prof Mohd Ataullah Shareef and Prof Ahsan Farooqui and others hoped that under the professional supervision, the national seminar on Unani medicine would achieve its purpose. The main aim is to highlight the Unani system of medicine and its treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCD) among the people, with long-term treatment and with no proven side effects.
According to these practitioners, NCD treatment in other systems of medicine like Allopathy are very costly and the side effects of drugs are more and sometimes even hazardous. The Unani system of medicine is very famous for its treatment of NCD. The therapeutic effects of the Unani compounds have been assessed and published in scientific journals of different Unani research institutions of India, particularly focusing on liver diseases, kidney diseases, diabetes mellitus, neurological diseases, joint diseases, geriatric diseases and skin diseases.
“Clinical and pharmacological studies are being carried out at different Unani research institutions and hospitals of India showing good results. Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine under CCRUM, Ministry of Ayush (Government of India) has been working at Erragadda, Hyderabad, for 30 years on Vitiligo Sinusitis, Diabetes, Psoriasis, Hyper lipidemia etc., with very good results. The very old and important centre for Unani Treatment in Hyderabad city is Government Nizamia Tibbi College and General Hospital, Charminar working under department of Ayush, State Government, they informed Nizamia Tibbi College has BUMS Course and MD (Unani Post Graduation course) with seating capacity of 75 in graduation and 36 in Post-Graduation with different specialties like Moalijat (Medicine), Ilm-ul-Adwiya (Uani Pharmacology), Ilm-ul-Qawalat wa Niswaan (Obstetrics & Gynecology) and Hifzan-e-Sehat (Hygiene) and Tahaffuz wa Samaaji Tibb (Social and Preventive Medicine), they added.
