Parigi: The youth has been showing interest in joining politics, thanks to the creation of new Gram Panchayats (GPs). They are being motivated by the fact that development is eluding thandas because of their proximity to villages. It may be recalled that the TRS Party, after coming to power, had recognised these villages as gram panchayats.

The recent development has enthused residents of thandas in making efforts to join the political bandwagon following the orders of the Andhra Pradesh High Court at Hyderabad to hold the panchayat elections. Consequently, politicians are showing curiosity in reservations, which have become crucial in the newly-formed GPs, since they have the chance of becoming sarpanches in their native GPs. Initially, there were 22 GPs in Parigi mandal, to which 15 new ones have been added. In the case of Doma mandal also, 15 new GPs have been formed, raising the number to 36, including those existing earlier. In Kulakacharla mandal 20 GPs have come into existence, thus taking the total to 44 GPs.

Some newcomers to politics have already launched campaign, promising more development in villages by securing special funds. Speaking to The Hans India, they pointed out that villages could not be developed because of the spending of only 5 per cent of the allotted amounts without considering the budget allotted to GPs. Several leaders are asserting that they would be able to get more amounts for GPs, thanks to their claimed closeness to MLAs and ministers. This clearly shows GP poll canvassing is already on although the notification is yet to be announced.
