Zaheerabad: Excise department officials raided ganja cultivation at Edulapally village in Jharasangam on Friday. According to Zaheerabad CI Ashok Kumar, the accused Mohammad Afzal Nayeem was cultivating ganja as an internal crop along with banana and cotton crops in 11–acre land. After getting a tipoff, the Excise staff visited his field and surprised to find out 2,143 ganjaplants up to a height of seven feet.

They burnt the plants which will yield about 21,430 kilograms. Later they raided the house of Nayeem and unearthed dry ganja of about 20 kilograms. The CI said that they deployed special teams to nab the accused, who was absconding. Enforcement CIs Ramesh Reddy, Mohan Kumar, SI Raju, Local Excise CI Ashok Kumar, staff Shyamala, Uma, Shamshuddin and Pentaiah took part in the raids.
