Charminar: Kite makers in the Old City have come up with a novel and unique idea of making one gram gold-coated kites for the festival season. If anyone is looking for out-of-the-box festival gifts for the holiday season, the kites could be one of them. Whatever the reason, the kites are now in huge demand. People are flocking to shops to buy the kite packs. The kites are also available in silver, German silver, metal and plastic. “The size starts from 2 to 5 inches, and the packs are in great demand this year. The customers demand for the gift packs of 1 gram gold and silver,” said B Bhagwan Das, owner of a 150-year-old shop and a third generation businessman near Charminar.
The price of 1 gram gold-coated gift pack starts from Rs 200 to 500 per piece, silver is of Rs 850 per piece, German silver starts from Rs 150 to Rs 300 and the metal kite gift pack is for Rs 150 per piece, he added. Apart from this gift packs, the charki of Silver, Sheesham wood and a Jaipur meena work are also being sold at the shops. The silver charki is Rs 2,100, Sheesham wood is of Rs 3,000 and Jaipur meena work is of Rs 4,500 per piece. The kites are mostly lapped up by the Gujarati and Marwadi communities in the city.
