Skill training empower poor women

Charminar: Certificates were handed over to women beneficiaries who completed their training in different vocational skills. About 30 women of different age groups received training sessions ranging from six months to one year, conducted by NGO Shaheen and in coordination of Action Aid.
Shaheen has been conducting skill-training programmes in mehendi art, fabric painting, computer operation, bangle making, stitching and embroidery. Most of the women beneficiaries are underprivileged, and who wish to stand on their own feet. Jameela Nishath, chief functionary and founder member of the NGO, said that the women who had obtained training were now ready to stand on their feet. They become self-employed in their relevant industry or they can start their own business. The certificates were handed over to the beneficiaries by M Anjaneyulu, the Regional Manager of Action Aid and representatives of Shaheen.
Speaking on the occasion, Anjaneyulu said that Shaheen’s association with Action Aid began from 2004, with the first funding for 'Legal Education and Mobilization against Domestic Violence. The project cycle started from 2012 after the appraisal with collection of child messages for sponsorship and some limited activities and became a full-fledged partner since 2013. Shaheen along with Action Aid has been instrumental in the formation of two women collectives - Basti Vikas Manch (BVM) and Shaheen Mahila Mazdoor Sangham (SMMS) with an overall aim to socially and economically emancipate women and children in the area. Action Aid’s Irfan and several women activists took part in the programme.
