Hyderabad: Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) chief Prof Kodandaram had demanded the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government to withdraw ordinance on BC quota in Panchayat Raj polls. He alleged that TRS took the decision to reduce BC reservation quota with an intention that BC sections do not grow and become strong politically. TJS staged a Deeksha at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park opposing TRS government's fresh decision on BCs that led to a row among political circles.
Addressing the gathering, Kodandaram said these reduced reservations would also be extended to MPTC and ZPTC polls apart from Panchayat Raj elections. “Political system will be strengthened only if there are representations for various sections. Reservations ensure that, and they are also meant to safeguard our democracy. However, TRS government did great injustice to all BC sections by reducing reservations,” Kodandaram said.
Noted BC leader R Krishnaiah stressed the need to file a writ petition in Supreme Court against TRS government ordinance. All political parties should extend support and actively take part in fight opposing K Chandrashekar Rao's decision, he said. Krishnaiah pointed out that earlier Congress government conducted PR polls with 34 per cent reservation for BCs, while KCR has reduced it to 22 per cent, showing how much he cares for BC sections.
Nearly 1500 BCs are at the risk of losing Sarpanch posts because of this quota reduction, the BC leader said. AICC spokesperson Dasoju Sravan spoke in the Deeksha and also tweeted that Supreme Court was not an obstacle for increasing 50 per cent quota for BCs in Panchayat Polls. He said it was the moral responsibility of Telangana government to submit enumerated data of Backward Classes to Court and further it would take its due course of action accordingly.
