AS Rao Nagar: In response to a report, ‘Garbage piles up; Kapra residents raise a stink’ published on January 16 in The Hans India, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials, along with its sanitation staff, rushed to Jaikisan Colony in AS Rao Nagar on Thursday and cleared the garbage.

The staff removed the garbage without leaving any trace. Speaking to The Hans India, Kapra Assistant Medical Officer for Health (AMOH) Dr Maitreyi said that they were working to provide healthy life to the public. Locals expressed happiness over the immediate response from the official machinery.

The residents of Jai Kisan, Sailok colonies and Jammigadda had been complaining about the garbage. Mohan Rao, a retired ECIL employee said, “It is heartening to see the GHMC swing into action and remove the garbage. It was a sore eye.”

It may be noted that the GHMC has been undertaking Swachh Survekshan for the past few years and advocating the use of two bins for the segregation of dry and wet waste. Meghna Rao, a resident of Sailok Colony, said, “Because of the garbage, dogs and pigs grown in numbers in the area and they scattered the garbage all over the streets. The staff would remove garbage once in five days. I hope they clear the waste on daily basis.”
